First day tomorrow.. Haven't really prepared much other than re-familiarizing my CATIA plus drafting. But honestly, I find AutoCAD much more easier than CATIA.

Since last year, I've always said to myself. I want to find a job with some company that uses CATIA because it seems that almost all major aerospace companies uses CATIA and I didn't want to be stuck with some company that doesn't use it. And thankfully, I managed to find one.

I can't say much about the job now mainly because I really have no idea what I am supposed to be doing but if you really want to know. Here's the job description that I replied to.. Although I was supposedly lacking the 5 years experience :/

JOB DESCRIPTION

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carry out engineering and design support in Aircraft modification/upgrades (including interiors, structures and systems).

Provide liaison engineering support to customers in aircraft structures repair.

Perform Engineering analysis of aircraft systems and their associated components, e.g hydraulics, pneumatics, air conditioning, flight controls, water/waste, fuel, electrical/power, etc.

Perform Engineering analysis of aircraft structures (e.g. floor beams, intercostals) using both Classical and FEA methods.

Develop Engineering Drawings (e.g installation drawings, production drawings, etc) for aircraft parts and kitting.

Temporary assignment travel of up to 3 months in the US and other countries in Asia is required.

Requirements:

BS Degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical or Aircraft Structures) with at least 5 years experience in related commercial/military aircraft design fields.

Ability and experience to create engineering installation and assembly drawings using CATIA V5 or similar software programs (e.g. Pro/Engineer, AutoCAD). The candidate should already understand standard engineering drawing convention such as ASME Y14.5.

Knowledge of aircraft structures analysis using both Classical and FEA Methods and ability to use FEA software such as COSMOS.

Knowledge of the following aircraft fleet: Airbus A300/A310/A320/A330, B737/B757/B767/B777 an advantage

Ability to create step-by-step work instructions for the removal and installation of hardware and components as they relate to aircraft structures, systems and avionics.

Familiar with Boeing or Airbus SRM, AIPC and AMM.

Familiar and understands Aircraft LOPA

Ability to analyze Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) source documents (Service Bulletins, Service Letters, etc) and make independent decisions based on analysis of available data regarding incorporation on Customer’s fleet.

Knowledge of the FAA CFR 14 Part 25 and equivalent EASA Regulations as they apply to commercial aircraft.

Familiar with ATA chapters.

Candidates who have previous work experience in aircraft component repair engineering (e.g repair development engineering) are also welcome to apply.

Ich sehe jez diesen Film in Channel 9! Oh manno das ist ganz lustig! Uma ist jez 37, und gerade geschieden.. Sie hat sich mit diesem Mann getroffen der 23 ist ( Wie ich :P)... Und sie ist eigentlich verwirrt uber ihre Beziehung.. Weil die Aelter-unterschied so weit ist. Also Meryl Streep ist ihre Therapeutin und auch sein Mutter! das ist was lustig ist... Sein Mutter ist eigentlich gegen diese Beziehung aber auf die andere Seite, sie muss auch fuer ihre Patientin. Was kann dann passiert?! :P also du musst ja selbst sehen!

Lernen, lernen und lernen... Mein Leben ist doch ohne Sinn oder? Ich hab eigentlich noch 7 Woche bevor dieses Semester endlich vorbei ist.. und manchmal mach ich mich gedanken :( Werde ich erhlich das alles bestehen und mein Diplom bekommen? als ich in Singapur war hab ich gedacht.. Uni wird doch nicht so schlimm sein... Also so lange dass ich jeden Tag lerne werde ich kein Problem haben... Aber das klappt nicht jetzt...

Ich glaube ich hab genug Buecher fuer die naechste 2 Jahre oder so :S

wegen meinen Schatz hab ich jetzt entschieden.. meinen Blog weiter zu machen.. Ich hab es so viel ueber meine Militaerdienst gelesen und ich denke jetzt! Hey, Its been rather long since i have written. Man, I am just too lazy. Oh yeah, btw, I have already ORDed... I will attempt to write more the next time ppl! Have applied for a job as a temporary teacher in Yishun ITE, teaching what I would never expect to teach... Aerospace Engineering... Which will definitely help when I go to University.. Provided i can teach the job! haha.. I know its not going to be easy.. Considering that

Finally!!! The local training in singapore is finally over!!! I have like 3 more weeks of lectures before we set off overseas where i will spend my last 3 weeks of my army overseas.. where i will supposedly ORD once i touch down in changi airport.

I hope this happens! hahaha! really, the last few months passed by awfully slow, its as if god knows that i really really want to ORD soon, and that he doesn't want me too. leaving me to suffer under my super unreasonable and egoistic superior. I wouldn't want to name names here.. but hey... my short stint working under him... its really really not nice...

haven't much to say these days... jus awaiting to go into UNSW.

wow... its been so long since i last updated.

Haha... I'm into the 2 visit after putting on my braces. There's really not much about that just that last week the rubber came off one of my last teeth and the metal wire broke loose, pokin my insides of the mouth, creating one super huge ulcer. I didn't really enjoy my food the last week. :( but i have now changed my colour to green and yellow. haha... i don't really noe whether its nice or nt, but heck it! :P

Last week was the cadet's Single Tank Battle Course and i was the conducting. And it was really the most stressing period as an officer because i guess i was being assessed there and then. But i'm glad that, other than some minor screw ups, It really went on as planned. And i'm so glad its over!!! But the next 4 weeks will be field camps, field camps and more field camps! So sad but i'm glad that its going to be the last time i'm going outfield. I thinking i'm getting tired of it. Now all i think about is ORD, ORD and ORD!!!!!!!

Okay.. I have put up the braces for my upper teeth since tuesday. But happy to say, none of the stories that norman says abt only being able to eat porridge for one week and all was true... Maybe the only problem i have was that the food kept on getting stuck between my teeth and the braces. but i guess everybody experiences this problem... so no worries.

I am going to put the lower one this coming tuesday. After that it would probably be a race against time.. Hopefully, better looking teeth by the time i reach UNSW! :):)

Freaking freaking pissed because of three things that happened for the last 1 month!!!

I just bought a new game for my PC to find out that the com does not support the game.. ARRGGGHHHH!!!!!! Never mind la, i will probably give it to jonathan for helping me so much with any kind of computer related stuff..

I also bought a second hand PSP from my fren for $300. Tell me that i wasn't ripped off as i saw a new psp selling for $349 with the exact things he gave me. Darn!

Lastly, i feel like i'm overspending for this month man. Will try to watch vigourously where my money is disappearing to man. No more impulse buys!!!!

On the other hand, i am going on yet another dental trip to put on my braces. Norman has been scaring me with ' how pain it was for him' stories. But i ain't buying it. Come on, it can't be that bad.... can it?

Altogether, a really not very good week!!

So the big 21 has arrived.. like finally! my party was good.. frens that i have never seen in ages came, so i ain' complaining... i dun have the pics now so i wouldn't elaborate much. maybe in the next post? so the 3 odd weeks of slacking have finally pass.. its back to business come tomorrow.. Having the worse feeling ever now as in less than 2 hours more i have to go back to camp.. no more nights off or nights out for the instructors.. cos the new batch of cadets are coming in.. man, i dun noe if i can take it or nt... my previous batch i was abit too friendly already.. NVM! i'm going to change when the next batch comes in.. maybe abit fiercer? But i'm still wondering if i can pull it off.. its jus not in my blood la.. but then again, must BE professional.. and yeah, still theres my fitness that i have to watch.. been eating too much turkey and merry making the past few weeks.. Must start to run and work out already... if not i will look like a big fat turkey in front of the cadets.. which i think its not a good thing! haha!!!

My god, for the first time ever, we can actually openly admit to the world that we have an MBT to call our own. Though i guess they wouldn't arrive so early enough for me to learn it, hopefully, the ten years of reservist will give me time enough to learn on the beautiful leopard 2. Suddenly, downgrading to serve as a staff officer during my reservist doesn't seem so appealing anymore. haha...

AOAC has been fine. Relearning all the crew drills is very beneficial as the cadets are coming in 2 weeks time. Hopefully, we wouldn't need to do too much stuff come the second batch. Come on! give the younger YSL's a chance!

I got a nasty cut jus at the top of my right eyebrow because a failed spring retainer gave way while i was attempting to remove the backrest of my beloved SM1 Tank. Though i think the scar looks kinda stylo though.. i will leave you guys to decide. See y'all soon!!

haha... save for an attachment to 453 SAR as a tank facilitator last week, i've been enjoying my so-called mini ORD period. 6 Days of bliss.. of totally feeling like a civilian. Of waking up at 10am in the morning, muching on cornflakes with the television on.. jus a sneak peek at what it feels like jus a few months from now.. or maybe not.. once again, our course commander asked the 3 of us ( meaning the instructors ) if we wanna sign on.. wah lau... SIR, i will only sign on for one thing.. if you give me a regular's pay. haha.. hey! its not that i'm money seeking or wat man.. its jus... the things u sacrifice for the 'allowance', it jus doesn't add up man.. i will see how it goes la.. leaving it to the very edge of my thinking mind.

Since it was my lull period, i was yet again posted ( arrowed!) to be an AOAC Instructor (Armour Officer Advanced Course) lecturer/ trainer, and guess who did i saw? My tango wing instructor. Well well, and it happened to be the very same instructor who gave 2LT Darren Huang a defaulter's parade when he accidentally dropped the rifle during live firing.. haha.. its been a long time since i seen him, but apparently, he still recognises me! interesting hurh.. hahaha!

But because of this i had to cancel my two off days thats supposed to take place tomorrow 11/12/06 and tuesday 12/12/06. Damn it, whoever says that instructors are slack should come by Office Training Wing for a while and get himself beaten up by every single instructor in the office. EVERY DAY.

oh yeah, how can i even forget. 9th December was the commission parade of my cadets. My my, i feel so proud for them and whats even better was that i was able to wear the no.1 again! :P:P:P haha... its nice la... but they ought to do something about the no.2.. looks too much like a waiter.. and my my... looks like singapore does have hope! saw a few cute girls too! haha..

I went to national dental clinic last friday to get the appointments to put on my braces.. Finally!! after so many years/ months waiting, my dad has finally agreed on getting me my braces. Hopefully, my teeth would straighten in time for university in aussieland! man.. i jus can't wait!!!

These few days of leave have really reinvorgorated my senses man.. so much so that i think, or rather, i WILL have a major problem assimiliating back to rather repetitive training set up by the army.. single tank battle course, dual tank battle course, tank platoon battle course, tact team battle course... not to mention the numerous tank live firing that are coming my way.. PLUS! running every day!! man, i dread 27th december where the new cadets are coming in... someone help me!!!!!!

but then again.. i get to wear the no.1 again.. :):) this saturday in fact.. where the current batch of officer cadets are going to get their black bar. although its not my parade, the atmosphere's not to be missed... haha... thats y we train so hard for 9 months for man... to march in front of our family and friends... kk, shall stop before people say i uberpatriotic... I'm NOT!!!

Anyway, i'm on my week long leave. Time to take a much needed rest.. Besides, theres nothing much to do at camp.. Time to do catching up with friends... or maybe jus rot at home.. any way would be fine by me.. I doubt i would be able to clear that much off/leave anyway when the new cadets come in..

I feel lethargic man.. Its like , i have already gone thru my own cadets' course, another one right after i commission and now, another one more is about to come. This time with the dreaded course commander back in singapore ( he went overseas for for a great part of the current commissioning cadets ) to breathe down the necks on us young 2nd lefts. I dun think i will have an enjoyable 5 more months.

Went to watch days of glory with my lil bro at the picturehouse. Some french movie that i wanted to watch since i came back from taiwan. And i finally caught it at the last day of showing. Haha.. Not bad but i think the upcoming flags of our fathers would be a better movie. days of glory is abit fake la, i mean, you can run with your back facing the enemy and make it alive?? be real!! I would never do that in if ever a real war breaks out... Directors making war movies should attend boot camp for a change, or maybe our very own BMT... Think they would think twice about ever doing another cutscene like that... never really like movies that doesn't stand up to the standards given out by the best ww2 war movie, saving private ryan. BUT, however fake it looks, it still had a rather strong meaning to convey. That of racism..

I thought some minutes if I should ask you for a favor. Well, as I have nothing
to loose, I decided ask you. :-) For a while now I collect safety cards (the
cards in the seat pockets) of planes and the collection is slowly but steadily
growing. My question: would it be possible for you to help me with my collection
and ask the crew for the one or other safety card when you hunt for nice shots
around the world next time :-) , I don't know, on your next flights, if you have
access to the apron or whenever you have a possibility. That would be great if
you would think of me and my hobby!

Of course only if it doesn't make too many circumstances and if it's not too
difficult for you. I would be happy about every single card. You also have to
tell me how I can thank you for your efforts. Maybe there is something that also
you collect or there is anything I could help you with?! Be sure that I would

I wasn't really sure wat to do.. considering that was the only 2 pics i contributed to airliners.net and by heck!, it had been almost one year plus since that pic came online. and i'm not exactly a regular contributor btw and to tell you the truth, i hardly knew how the pic look like when he emailed me...

But i believe this is a chance to be seized, give him his safety cards from different airlines for his hobby, which shouldn't be too difficult, i presume.. And in return, i would be able to establish a friendship with this pal which would prove useful should i visit austria in the near future.. he could show me austria for a start!! however unlikely it sounds... haha..

sorry for the rather late post.. my coms whacked man.. i dun seem to be able to get into the main menu of the com.. its really wierd la.. when i on the com, the monitor switches off and it wun be able to start anymore... i dun noe how to explain it simply la.. and i'm not going to try.. haha..

anyway, i came from taiwan 2 weeks ago and i must say that training in taiwan around this period is one of the best times to train man.. other than the pretty sandy terrain, can't really complain much about the weather.. its so unlike my time where it rained very heavily, every single day... this batch is real lucky man... The R&R?? Was superb.. Went to much more interesting places.. of cos, shilin night market and ximen-ding was a sure go.. even though i already went there like last batch.. theres really too much things to buy.. haha.. whats more, the whole streets are thronged with pretty taiwanese girls.. if theres one thing singapore gals can learn from their taiwan counterpart, is really put in the effort to dress up.. the gals there are simply stunning man.. haha..

i invited darren, charlize and may to my cadets parents' visiting day. nice layout and all, charlize and darren even got to sit on the BIONIX.. which even i haven't had a chance to go up and take it for a spin.. haha...

now, the cadet's have only 4 weeks plus before they are going to commission.. just have one phrase to think abt now..

Next week is going to suck.. essentially from tomorrow onwards la... outfield for the cadets as well as the instructors.. Although i must say that there's some advantages being the instructors side( canned drinks, anyone??), it isn't that easy as it looks.. or maybe it does.. I'm not sure what exactly are the instructors going to do maybe i will let u noe when next week comes...

My brother jus bought a multi purpose gym machine for $186 at ebay.. and its already beckoning me to come and work out. I dun noe but I think its really time to get started.. haha.. once i got my protein powder deal from my mum. Man, I think i'm jus going to add into his inventory some workout bench or something. :/

Sadly, with little more than 2 months to go before commissioning, a trainee of mine has requested to be put out of course. It baffles me, but it was quite sad to see him go out of course. Main reason he gave was because he has a place in the SAFSA soccer team. There's really sad, but then again, we can't force a person to continue into something he has absolutely no passion for.. Wish him the best still.. but jus want to add, give me a tank to a soccer ball anytime!

As for good news, I have gotten a place in UNSW. Meaning my dream of being able to study in australia is one step closer. No discredit to Singapore goverment schools, but i think its time for a new culture, a new chapter of my life to live in. I mean, 14 odd years in singapore?! Interesting as it is, it's starting to turn mundane..

Man.. things are really starting to heat up..

Live Firing is less than 24 hours away, going off to Taiwan in like a month's time.. I guess the busy period is starting its cycle yet again.. and what's worse... my additional work (in addition to instructing) is piling up like mad!!!!

But knots in my first journey as an instructor is slowly unravelling.. Slowly, i hear lesser and lesser scoldings from my course commander.. haha.. yes, even one bars get screwed... :D But i'm learning.. and i'm enjoying every bit of it.. I learnt so much that i believe that this will really help me when i go out to the real world.. Firstly in uni and after that out in the real world..

I managed to squeeze watever time i had today to watch the movie ' A Devil Wears Prada'.. My my.. This movie really reminds me so much of my bosses.. ad i believe it will really struck a chord with anyone who has lousy bosses.. hmm, come to think of it.. I've never really met someone who says wonderful things abt their bosses.. Interesting... 3.7/5!!

Its going to be a long ride till the end of this course and their commissioning..

1. I ran the army half marathon, which i consider a very great acheivement.. to me at least :)

2. My muscles was cramping from the 16km mark all the way to the finishing line.. You dun wanna noe how bad it was... Which was rather sad.. If not, i would think that my timing would be much faster.. DAMN!! But its a good try...

3. This coming week is going to suck. LIVE FIRING!! which obviously means my weekend is burnt... I feel rather sad for this bunch of cadets.. they are not going to fire the HE rounds!!

Went down to watch the fireworks on saturday... had turkish food( the waitress was cute! :)) which was really really good, but sadly the portions was a tad too small.. for me, at least.. haha.. We then went to Ben n Jerry's on the ground floor for one main reason.. whats the hype abt that place.. i must say that their ice cream is not bad... but because we shared 6 scoups... i really couldn't tell which flavour belongs to wat... but not bad none the less..

My OC's askin us( the six new instructors) whether we would like to extend our national service for another 6 months.. major advantage would be that he would push the government to give us regular pay.. which is really really tempting.. but i haven't made up my mind yet.. given that my uni would prob start on feb '08, there's only 2 choices i would like to have to spend my whole 8 months odd after NS.. Being a relief teacher or extending lor.. guess this would need some consultation from my parents.. haha!

oh yeah., did i tell y'all that i also watch 'click'.. man, that was one of the most heartwarming movie i've ever saw la! and to think that i thought it was another comedy show..

'nuff said.. i ought to change the outlay of my blog.. due to something casper told me but i haven't known the reason yet... CASPER! tell me!!!!!

woah.. national day is here already.. i can't believe that jus one year ago i was stuck in ULYSSES Coy in Pulau Tekong.. reminiscing about home.. now i guess i'm pretty much over the staying in camp till Saturday book in kind of life... well, u can't blame me.. humans adapt!

i always wonder why i wait till last min to update this.. haha.. anyway.. nothing much's happening.. save for ATI commissioning parade( I'm the god-damnned usherer!!) coming up this monday.. I guess this week would be pretty much low-key...

Training-wise.. its not my forte yet... all they are doing now is lessons on MG's MG's and more MG's... We would be progressing on the tank main gun... lessons still would be conducted by other departments.. but i guess our turn will come.. tank camouflaging drill is coming up.. which is wat i'm supposed to teach.. i jus hope i can live up to that expectation man.. :)

I went to meet up with darren, may and charlize today to attend may's church.. and i must add, i'm pretty impressed! i'm not one to compare but its a really total different thing listening to the pastor talk.. well, a good experience.. we then headed to town to play Xbox 360 winning eleven.. aiya.. i think they shouldn't even attempt to make it playable in Xbox.. The controls are clunky!! darren... u lucky la!! hahaha... lets play the PS2 version soon.. haha!

anyway i gtg now.. its been so long since i had such an enjoyable weekend.. haha!

okay... going to be abit fast down here.. hav barely 15 more minutes before i'm off to sungei gedong.. I jus finished a 3 days coaching course at mandai hill camp last week... i swear, any more of those course and i will really feel like going AWOL man.. theres jus something in being able to go home every single day of national service.. hahaha... guess my first month of being an officer is quite enjoyable hurh.. now the next thing i can look foward to is national day.. a miserly one day of holiday.. CRAP!!!

I jus applied to UNSW last thursday.. which can easily be the best news that i've ever heard in quite a while... i'm probably going for the feb' 08 semester though.. which would kinda feed into my plan because

1. Its going to be 2 yrs instead of 2.5
2. Can save more money. I dun wanna go there and stinge..

okay.. so i'm very late... but nothing much to say.. save for.. this few weeks are one of the most busiest birthday months ever!! 3 weeks in a row,i had to attend some one's birthday party... well, free food and catching up with my old frens.. whose complaining?? haha!

I'm two weeks into my role as a tank instructor already.. and it really feels good not being the one shouted and doing the punishments at all.. and for once, i feel that i've been respected for wat i've achieve as an officer.. the trainees under me are really great.. its really different, attitude wise, as compared to my course... but then again.. its only the first 2 weeks... i can't and i won't say much.. :)

i've got my own office table :) i can finally put the tank model that casper and his gang bought for me.. haha thanks ppl once again...

On a serious note, i guess being an officer is no simple task at all.. having to do so much sia kang.. but till date, i'm enjoying it... i wouldn't wan to be a PC( 24km route march anyone?? although being able to participate in NDP would be a perk.. haha).. i wouldn't wan to be staff officer because i guess it really doesn't apply to wat i train so hard for.. i have the greatest frens or coursemates in the school of armour( save for a few arseholes. you always get those no matter where u are.. bleah), i get to go taiwan(!!!!!!!!!) and brunei =s which i probably would never have the chance if i never join the army.. i'm finally seeing how i was trained through a third person view.. which is a real eye-opener.. i really wanna do well for this vocation the government has put me in and i intend to excel in this...

ok sorry man... my pics dun seem to upload man.. but i will try to fix it somehow...

i'm now training my OM( operator Maintainer) course in Ayer Rajah camp.. which is some camp smack right in the middle of AYE.. i think its one of the best camps i've ever been to... most probably because no one stays over 5pm down there.. but as instructors of SOA, we hav to go back to sungei gedong camp to prepare for the next batch of officer cadets entering armour.. which basically sucks!

We had our initiation ceremony( where the new instructors are 'accepted' into the family) last wednesday.. which actually meant that we had to complete IAC (Instructor Assualt Course), a course where we had to wear our FBO( Standard items in the field pack included) and basically run round the whole bloody camp before culminating in finishing the S.O.C obstacles.. its pretty tough, considering that i've not been running for god knows when.. okay okay, i will start running soon!! hahaha...

man, i just can't wait for the new cadet course to start proper.. its going to be pretty exciting.... :)

haha.. So i am no longer OCT Eugene already.. it has already been converted to 2LT Eugene.. and i had my first baptism of junior cadets calling me 'GD EVENING SIR!!' on saturday already and although it was probably said in a mockingly way, i must say, it feels good.. hahahaha...

Parade was swell.. but the 6 course dinner they provided wasn't THAT fantastic despite having abalone and sharksfin.. rather mediocre.. but watever it is.. 10 june would be a day i will never forget.. haha..

I would be going back to Sungei Gedong( man, i'm going to miss OCS food), for the 2 next main course i have to take as an officer.. some tank maintenance course and leadership course which will take me to the end of june, mid july even.. and then hmm.... i will see how it goes from there la.. haha.. this weeeked was too short to post some pics from the parade.. but dun worry.. next time would come with pics.. haha..

first week back to OCS in wat we called the Joint Term of OCS.. Well, its the last phase already so wat hav i got to say...

first up, its so much better in ocs than in good old sungei gedong.. Accomodation-wise, food-wise, discipline-wise.. Everything's so much better.. Alpha Wing wise, i thank god the WSM there dun really touch us.. in fact, we pretty much run our own show.. this week was slack.. visits to naval base, airforce bases, lectures and lectures and more lectures!! this is how army life should be lived man.. haha..

I also saw 2 of our future girl tank cadets.. and a good talking session with them..they would be the the batch that i would be taking as a tank instructor.. haha.. apparently, this batch has the most girls seen so far.. 18 girls joining the ranks of the SAF's Officer Corps.. man, sometimes, u really hav to give it to them man.. joining the tough trainin without any single complaint.. man.. they are good.. hahaha..

Jus 2 more weeks b4 commission.. i can hardly wait.. dun worry man.. i would put up some pics of us in our black berets!

bliss... sheer bliss... as of now... there is NO more servicing of tanks to be done, NO more cleaning of the sickening machine guns, No more of pretty much everything that is sucky as a cadet trainee.. now, i jus hav to last 3 more weeks before my rank will change from OCT to 2LT.. damn.. this feels good.. haha

I'm now back to ocs.. Alpha Wing.. Reputed to be the most sadistic wing ever during my service term.. hopefully, they would leave us ARMOUR cadets alone.. we dun belong to the infantry man.. haha.. but it would be good, finally, i would be able to see my old frens again.. especially good ol' darren.. haha..

Next week would probably be slack la.. heard that there will be visits to naval base, air base and all.. hmm, i wonder y they dun put visit to sungei gedong camp.. show them the offensive might of our army!! hahaha..

i went to watch da vinci code on saturday night.. i must say that it isn't as good as the book man.. much hype but no substance.. but i guess there are so many other good movies to watch.. oh yeah, I jus bought a PS2.. i noe, i noe.. kinda late right.. esp when ps3 is coming round the corner.. haha.. but watever la.. i need something to reward myself with..

the last outfield has ended!! WOO HOO!!!!! and come next week, all of us are going back to ocs to train for the grand day!! haha.. We did FIBUA last week, much like how you fight in the urban jungle.. imagine SAF's black hawk down scenario la.. haha.. rather interesting.. but then again.. its not really necessary as tank commanders do NOT do dismounted assualt.. haha.. an experience none the less..

i more or less hav got my posting already.. if nothing goes wrong(hopefully), i would be selected to be an instructor for the future batches of officer cadets... exactly wat i want.. and guess wat? they are going back to taiwan for training!!! things are definitely picking up.. haha.. onl;y thing is mount biang.. again?!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

this week will be shiok la.. book in today, book out on thursday.. haha.. it jus doesn't get any better than this..

Last week full troop exercise wasn't as bad as i thought that it would.. we didn't even do servicing until we reach back to camp.. and even then, servicing didn't come with tekaning sessions... servicing aside, FTX was rather like playing wargaming man.. playing 4 missions spread over a period of 2 days.. even putting camo on for tankees.. i never thought that tankees requires one to put on the camo face cream, but for some stupid reason.. we had to do it.. which soooooo does not blend with our uniform.. haha... we had a few period of endurance talk( talks that last from midnight till early morning) with CAPTAIN GREG, our course commander.. its a kind of mental torture man.. when u so badly need sleep, but some big shot is right in front of you telling you how lousy we all have been, and at 5.30 in the morning still!!!damn demoralising man... but nevertheless, he's some officer that i respect.. a real 'lead by example' officer..

tonight i would have to pass up my 3 map assignments that i am abt to get started on and study for the next tactics test 2.. man.. i can't wait for this week to end!!

i'm officially dead.. i hav a map assignment that is only 15% done( the rest which i dun hav a clue to how to get about starting it), a research that i haven't actually started yet( jus hope its easy) and finally a tactics test that i hav yet to prepare for( this is probably the most easiest one la.. come on, i hav been studying for the last 14 yrs of my life!! Lol)

it was a really good friday yesterday.. met up with a few of my PJC friends at orchard to catch up and stuff before meeting up with good old darren, abeer and may for billy bomber's dinner.. real good talking bad abt artillery is in front of darren.. as he's always going on and on abt how artillery life is sooooooooooooooooo slack... abeer too came back from taiwan(!), but was from a different camp altogether.. hearing his experiences, infantry is really not far away from armour... marching through the forest the whole night through.. man, i'm just so glad that i dun hav to do those stupid marches.. and esp. the part where they hav to CAMO their faces.. so glad so glad.. but hey, they get to sit in a helicopter for insertion into enemy-held territory.. i've always wanted to sit on a helicopter!! haha...

so i went to taiwan for 3 weeks and now i'm back.. come to think of it, time passes by real fast when we are undergoing training.. straight up, i wanna say that, save for the really atrocious weather in the first week, training was pretty much enjoyable.. more important to note, there was minimal or at least 80% less servicing we did in taiwan than we had in singapore.. maybe i shoud put it up with the chief of armour.. make do without the servicing.. if they leave it to me, servicing should be done only twice a week.. hahaha... okay, enough abt my complaining...

First week:

worse week ever... woke up everyday shivering to the spines... not only that, we still had to do morning servicing.. damn it.. nothing much to say la.. wouldn't even wan to remember that week... brrr!!!

Second week:

much better weather.. in fact.. pretty great weather.. hot no doubt.. but not humid at all.. running around without breaking a sweat.. now how often to you get that in singapore?? haha.. we fired the main rounds our tanks use that week.. the type of rounds that are used to destroy other tanks.. man, when these armoured beast coughed out their spit, the earth really trembled man..

Third week:

Was pretty much low keyed.. servicing.. as usual.. but this time without the hassle of our instructors.. and our very first experience of washing the goddamn tanks... but u should hav seen how sparkling green our tanks were.. haha.. R&R was great.. not their attractions though.. but the price of their clothes.. freaking cheap.. a pity the larger share of the clothes are for gals.. but at least, there was still food.. haha.. in fact.. i'm starting to miss taiwan for their night markets already..

damn.. taiwan's good...

i got a high fever on tuesday evening, resulting in an atten C ( sorry, i dun noe how the army spells it, but this is the way I SPELL... haha..) this basically meant i could immediately book out and slack at home.. which was very much needed given the pile of sleep debt i hav accumulated over the past few weeks..

So this is it.. the last few hours in sunny singapore.. where i type now, i dun exactly hear any one shouting "take ur time, right??" or "You wan to show me attitude right??", or maybe the most famous of all... "knock it down!!".. In fact, we do push up's so often that its no longer considered a punishment already... now, instead of shouting the time tested, traditional " permission to carry on, SIR!!", it has 'evolved' to " permission to keep fit, Sir!!".. Tekaning sessions aside, maybe the punishment really has some good effects to it.. man, look at all the tankees in TOCC and tell us we hav no muscles to show off... haha... but then again, i rather do push up's on my own accord.. not when someone is shouting at my ear to do it.. damn it!

things are not going well for us tankees.. as it is, 4 out of 11 ppl( i'm spared for now..) hav already received their OR's( observation report).. which is really bad news as jus having 2 of these reports being directed to you will mean u can kiss your imaginary black bar on ur shoulder goodbye and put on the 3 stripes on ur biceps and be a admin specialist.. I've said to many ppl, and i will say it again.. armour( especially as a tankee) is the worse place to earn the black bar( with the combat engineers coming in a close second).. mainly because the instructors to cadets ratio is high.. more like 1.5 to 1.. there's absolutely no place to slack.. you really hav to be on the ball all of the time.. which is a little bit of a shock to me la.. I will be honest la.. i'm not exactly the on the ball type.. you noe, i tend to slack subconciously.. haha...but i wanna say, under armour, i'm really putting my best effort in everything i do.. to survive this beastly 10 odd weeks left..

I've also heard that there's a common assumption that tankees or rather the black berets are snobbish.. well, i wun dispute this fact.. but maybe i would like to change the words a little.. you could say that we are proud.. immensely proud to wear the black beret.. to be part of this formation... before i start this tirade, i jus wanna say that i'm not trying to be anti-formation here.. i respect each and every formation out there under the SAF... each of the formations are necessary such that victory is possible for our homeshores.. but jus take a look at the things a tank commander has to do as compared to maybe an infantry commander..

Tankee: Topo( or navigate la for all those non-SAF personnels)
Noe the tank encounter drills for engaging different targets
Radio comms. (i must add! at the speed of light!!!!)
guide the driver on the routes to take to reach objectives
guide the gunner to engage the different targets
control 3 other tanks
act as a round loader
engaging the enemy
( all of this done at speeds of 30km/h average, no stopping at all!!!!)

Infantry: Topo
engage enemy( which to me will always be the same..section! Straight ahead! bleah!)
Dig trenches

Maybe i'm being abit biased here.. truth is, i dun really wat else infantry commander does!! OKAY OKAY!! i shall stop! if not ppl like mr. abeer and mr. ian will kill me.. yes yes... we need you all to consolidate the ground for us.. ya, ya... queen of the battlefield.. happy?? hahahaha....

and once all of that ends, wat do we do?? servicing still!! imagine!! tired like shit from all those engaging of targets and instead of a nice sleep beckoning to us, we are faced with having to 'maintain' the bloody tank.. each session requires at least 2-3 hours which once finish, we still hav weapons to maintain.. its not those puny SAR 21's we clean.. its 2 bloody f*&king machine guns per tank crew!! now that would lead us to 4 am when we can finally lay our head to rest.. but we hav to wake up at 6am and the whole process starts over again.. now tell me, which formation disregards 7 hours of sleep so often?? only armour!! and when is the only period of time i actually feel like giving up the chase for that black bar?? not during bmt.. not during ocs: service term... only in armour.. I've complained so much to my mother.. but she only has this thing to say to me " you chose it wat".. so with my choice taken, i shall bear the consequences.. haha..

watever.. i always take heart that thousands of other batches hav gone thru this shit.. maybe even worse.. if they can go thru it and pass it, why not me?? nuff abt me griping.. so before i go to taiwan to serve my 3 weeks 'confinement', i shall intro you all this song.. as i always do.. haha.. man, fort minor is good!!

Single tank battle course was the worst camp ever.. if taiwan's training is going to be something like that.. man, i dunno how am i going to go thru it..

5-day field camp
hours outfield = 120 hrs
total amount of sleep = 10 hrs

can u imagine.. the amount of sleep is not even 10 percent of the waking hours!! I'm really really surprised that i managed to pull thru this without complaining much.. u all noe that i love to sleep.. in fact, i think its the most important thing to me.. i never would have expected to sleep an average of only 2 hours and still manage to go thru this whole bloody thing...

not sleeping aside, i think its quite cool training as a commander( all i noe now is that commanders do NOT do servicing :). next week would be slack la.. all in preparation for taiwan.. u noe wat?? i jus look foward to the R&R there.. haha..

Single tank battle course's next week.. a 5 day outfield camp.. Apparently the first outfield for our pro term.. hmm, so wat we did for the past week was mainly on preparation for the outfield.. we also had tests on our crew drills.. like how to set up a camouflage during laager( dun ask me wat does that mean.. I dun noe but if i'm not wrong, its those big nets covering the tanks while we are awaiting orders that prevent air recce to see us) and how to do a parade mounting, dismounting, preperation for fire, ceasing fire of the SM-1. Next week is perharps one of the most shiong week already.. i can already imagine the amount of servicing we hav to do considering we all have to move out every day for the next week.. feeling F*&King high..

Enough abt the army for once.. i went to catch up with my old fren hock rong yesterday. its been at least 5 years since i last saw him...if u all dun noe, he's my best buddy during sec 1 and 2, and the guy that intro-ed me to taekwondo... we went to catch underworld evolution( no, u dun wanna know when was the last time i watched a movie).. was gory no doubt, but i didn't really understand the whole plot.. so maybe a rating of 6.8 would be good. haha.. i later went to king albert park mac to hang out with casper and gang.. king albert park mac, holland v's burger king, Taka's coffee bean, siglap's mac... all of these sure brings back memories of studying for our last sem in poly man.. haha.. i could still remember particularly wat subject we studied at the different areas.. hmm, memories... well, i would write the next post on a happier note.. but for now, i have to get back to camp at 3 o'clock to further prepare for our batle course... DAMN IT!!

oh yeah.. taiwan's training in 3 more weeks.. can it get any better?? haha...

So sick of armour life!! Wednesday to friday was our live firing.. which basically meant that there was no sleep!! imagine, 5 hours of sleep in 2 days.. Army life is perfectly fine if there is enought sleep.. but shit this man.. our officers told us this only the beginning!!! I also spoke with the previous course sword of honour, and he told me... "armour officer cadet course is the hardest among the 5 officer vocations.. u must be mentally prepared".. and i thought that infantry vocation is the worse.. but watever la!! jus 3 more months to go!! damn it!! i hate servicing!!

The only piece of heaven in Sungei Gedong Camp.. playing 'games' for the whole day.. it doesn't get any better than this.. but alas, it has ended.. next week we will start our tank commander course proper. We hav qualified to be a tank driver and a tank gunner. Now, wat we will all learn is how to,observe the enemy b4 speaking the orders to obliviate the target.

Its our live firing next week.. the servicing and maintenance of the tank this week will be the worse yet.. Ooo... I'm so looking foward to it.. hahahaha.. i managed to take some pics of my tank, but i shall jus put the 2 of my best one la.. haha.. excuse the plastic bag at its muzzle, as its necessary so that sand dun enter when we drive foward.. haha..

the past week wasn't a good one for me... probably due to

1. my whole fingernail on my left index finger came clean off while trying to remove the tank roadwheel.

2. my father's car exhaust pipe got bent because i underestimated the height of my car and the pavement.

3. i hav to remember a whole map with the objectives and its axis for a test which if i fail would mean a confinement.

4. I have to book in.

things weren't so great.. but then again, i can choose to rephrase and see a half-full glass

1. I wasn't put out of course, and more importantly, i didn't lost my whole finger(!!)

2. Its only an exhaust pipe. Not the whole car. (btw, this whole thing was settled. My father just laughed.. which is a very good sign)

3. Erm, i can't seem to find anything good no matter wat angle i look at it. haha..

4. 10 more times of booking in and i'm through with armour course!

now that doesn't seem so bad issit?

Armoured Gunnery Training Simulator wasn't bad at all.. In an air-conditioned room for most part of the day, playing 'computer games', it almost seemed like heaven in the army.. but it won't last forever la( in fact, nothing last forever!).. so i'm enjoying it while it last..

A short reprieve before i go back to camp.. we have more or less finished our driving phase.. tomorrow's our test, which upon passing, we will get our driving license.. :)) driving the tank is perharps one of the easiest and enjoyable phase of our tank training. maybe if i wasn't training as a tank commander , i really wouldn't mind being a tank driver instead.. haha.. one thing that really sucks is the huge amount of servicing that needs to be done.. the greasing of all the wheels is something all of us do not look foward to..

but good news ahead.. all of these servicing will stop in 2 days time, as we now embarked on the gunnery phase of our course.. much like aiming the turret, getting the distance from us to the enemy before finally shooting the fire button.. i jus hope that it plays like some computer game.. haha..

I think i only collected half of wat i got last year.. arrgh, watever la.. at least i still get some teeny weeny bit of allowance from the SAF, so i'm not complaining so much( emphasis is on SO MUCH)...

wat kinda sucks now is that i have a regimental guard duty this saturday.. and on sunday would be the 84mm Live Firing( Demo).. ARMOUR does not have this weapon in our inventory, but y the hell must we drag our arses off to see this INFANTRY weapon fire on a SUNDAY(!!!!!!!!!!!!!), i have no idea... so, (GUARD DUTY)+ (LIVE FIRING)= (WEEKEND BURNED).. go figure!!

haha... on a brighter note though, i jus watched 'Harold and kumar goes to white castle' and wedding crashers on the ipod video.. man, its so cool!!! but boy does it suck up alot of battery juice!!

whew.. finally, another short break of 4 days before i go back to sungei gedong.. It seems like every phase of my army life gets tougher and tougher... when i jus came into safti MI from pulau tekong, i thought that ocs was tough.. now, after entering armour camp, i think ocs is a piece of cake.. firstly.. armour takes physical training seriously... real serious.. monday, wednesday and friday would be our endurance trainig, namely, 8 rounds of '400m in 1min 30 secs' runs, while the other days we hav a less taxing 2.4km jog.. before every meal would be 12 pull ups, no fail.. althought ocs requires us to do it, most of us are too slack to do it so religiously.. but that doesn't happen in armour.. when u say u do it, you do it.. 'INTEGRITY' haha.. one of the values of an officer..

in 2 weeks, we haved learn the gunnery and driving aspect of the SM1 tank... gunnery wise, wasn't so exciting.. but driving the tank is one whole new experience altogether.. hearing the tank rev up its engine is enough to make you high.. haha.. plus! plus! there is a really really pretty staff seargeant teaching us man.. although she's old( 32 btw), its enough to make all the tank crews go gaga over her man... one day.. one day i will take a picture with her.. then u all see.. there's jus something with gals driving tanks man.. haha..

so, for the thousandth and one time, i'm going back into armour camp to train.. this time i heard, we are going to learn how to drive the magnificent beast.. haha.. it sounds cool.. but to tell u the truth.. its rather squeezy inside.. in fact its jus enough for you to sit there and move ur hands around only.. haha.. maybe tanks are meant to be like that.. i dun noe?!

The brunei jungle is possibly the worse place a soldier can step its feet into.. tasked into groups of 18-20 ppl( including an instructor) we were expected to navigate the thickly vegetated and unforgiving jungle in search of checkpoints, to scale the cliffs of the 1344 feet mt. biang( i would dwell more on this dreaded mountain later), attempt a combat swim along the 40m sungei batu apoi.. all of these done with our poor backs strapped with a 20kg( at least!!) fieldpack packed with essentials that's supposed to last us 4 days out in the wilderness and not to mention with such atrocious weather!

well, you never thought 3 days out would hav lasted sooooo long!! first day was spent navigating the jungle.. dealing with plants with thorns designed to keep a rhino or at least small birds at bay.. haha... the terrain we travelled was mostly mud or thick clay.. which explained the sluggish movement of our troops.. haha.. one thing i ain't proud to say and from which i received many jibes from, especially from my good old buddy darren, was that we in any way, didn't manage to secure at least one checkpoint! many hours were spent searching in vain for the white pieces of paper that denoted the checkpoints.. but its not as if we never tried!!!!!!!!!!!!!! one good experience though.. we slept in hammocks, which to me was one of the few highlights of the trip.. and because safety was very difficult to ensure in the dead of the night, we had to sleep by 6.30 in the evening to 6 in the morning.. can u believe it?? first time in my 5 months of army training i'm allowed to sleep 12 hours!!

Mt biang.. all of u can go on and say " i've climbed mt watever-name-you-wan-to-call-it.. i think this mt. biang you are complaining abt is a piece of cake". well, then i very well suggest you bite ur tongue and go to hell... haha.. imagine taking on 75 degree cliffs with all the weight bearing down ur back.. it got so bad that i developed painful cramps along the way.. indeed, sometimes it got so steep that we had to resort to grasping on plants or small trees so that we maintain our balance on the way up.. and did i mention that some of these plants hav their own self defence mechanism called thorns?! very great care was given to ensure that we do not foolishly grab the thorns in an attempt to hoist ourselves up yet another metre in the pursuit of the ultimate prize.. the peak of mount biang.. and all of ya can jus imagine the immense sense of euphoria, satisfaction and relief all rolled onto our face.. some of us at the peak sought to release our built-up pride at conquering at such an immensely difficult task on the trees by kicking at all of the trees, all the while shouting "F*&k you mt biang!!! Is this all you've got to stop us from reaching this peak?!?!" and to tell ya the truth, i've never felt so proud to be a member of the black beret then!

the attempt on the river wasn't done after climbing mount biang though.. it was done prior to the whole outfield trip.. which was in a way good because i would never noe if i could actually swim after 3 days of treacherous trekking.. it wasn't anything fascinating but it was something that all of us had never experienced b4( and hopefully never again!! come on!! leave all these to the infantry officers!!) hahaha...

and can u imagine... i did aaaaaalllll of this surviving on river water purified with those tablets and dry hard kong guan biscuits? u noe how i hate those combat rations, which as i look back now was kinda stupid la... if i had eaten those combat rations instead, my fieldpack weight would hav significantly decrease as it takes a substantial amount of both space and weight.. so i'm not the typical gung-ho soldier you guys thought i was hurh?? haha.. combat rations.... YUCKS!! hahaha...

so there! i hope i fill y'all in with such details of brunei that all of you hav nightmares abt it! haha... and oh, abt the size of insects over there? with reference to our good harkworking red ants in singapore.. mentally multiply them by 20 times in size and you would get the idea..

i will be training in brunei for 3rd to 12th jan.. thankfully, only three of the nine days are spent outfield.. its going to the last exercise that involves the whole of the OCS cadets( save for the infantry).. doing the same old stuff... topography.. haha.. i've heard from my instructers that the jungle's crazy down there.. with insects the size u've never heard or seen b4.. well, i will enter it with an open mind.. no point fretting over it.. but i will make it a point to tell all of ya how big the insects really are.. haha..

man, this is one airplane ride i'm not looking foward to... come on, get this over with! and give me my tank driving license!! hahahaha..

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

well, well.. my week at sungei gedong armour camp was great.. apart from the fact that this camp was super super ulu( way beyong lim chu kang cemetery!!), i hav no cpmplaints watsoever.. The food's great( waaaay better than ocs safti), we have had new beds, new cupboards, new everything!) Toiletwise, nothing can be compared to ocs safti la..

so we've had 72 ppl entering the armoured vocation.. only 12 was shortlisted to be trained as tank commander.. so guess who is NOW training as a tank commander?!?! hahaha... no prizes for guessing man... u cant believe how happy i felt when they said ' congratulations, you are now selected as a tank commander trainee'. man, we even got to name our tanks! our original plan was to name it PANZER16. Panzer for 'armour'.. '1' for the first batch of 200 '6' but i guess it would be unfair for the other 2 tank crew, who ought to hav their say in the naming of our baby... haha...

so i went to lynette's 21st birthday gathering on friday.. swell, i've jus passed my 20th birthday and she's already going on her 21st! like not fair! anyway, wish her all the best.. haha.. had a great time catching up with esther and her fellow pigs.. reminiscing abt ping yi days.. abt how i used to take their pencil boxes and pretending that i didn't even touch it at all.. still makes me laugh man.. haha.. looking foward to seeing them again.. :)

man, i can't believe i'm too lazy to update.. haha.. i guess 5 months of blogging jus once a week got into me.. anyway, christmas eve or rather my birthday was great... party's cool,food delicious, a pity some ppl couldn't make it.. we went out the whole night after the party.. hanging out at orchard, dodging sprays of snow foam from bangla's and s'poreans alike.. we even witness a takashimaya security guard getting sprayed in the face.. and i must tell u.. it's a real comical sight, seeing his fuming face as he chase after the culprit who did it along the whole stretch of taka's shops.. like, come on, lighten up man... its christmas after all!

we watched king kong at 3 a.m in the morning.. and by the time it ended at 6.. all of the ppl that trek out of the cinema were like zombies man.. looking so listless.. it was an experience.. but i doubt i would like to try it out again.. jus too tired.. i think not sleeping at night in the army is good enough for me.. haha..

otherwise, christmas day itself was pretty much low key for me... aside from going to church in the afternoon, i catched up with sleep the whole day.. till 8 when i volunteered to hang out at jonathan's house to watch 40 yr old virgin.. its a good movie, no doubt.. but it looks abit unrealistic la.. come on, if only gals wan sex thaaat much... bleah!! Hollywood... *smirks*

Service term's OVER!! haha.. after a tough 24km march thru the night with the presentation of our three white stripes culuminating in our lap of honour formed by thee juniors cadet's clapping us on, we all are finally able to leave tango wing with a sense of satisfaction and pride... ready to take on the vocations we ourselves have chosen..

yesterday's tango's social night was a blast.. sadly, cai qun couldn't come... so at the very last minute sampson's fren, alyssa agreed to come.. thank her( and not to mention sampson!!) lots for helping me.. btw, she's won an ipod nano in the lucky draw.. lucky her.. but i guess we were the luckiest couple that day.. even i managed to come out of the ballroom with 2 free golden village tickets.. nevertheless, it was quite a shock to hear my lucky number (1305!!) come out over the microphone 2 times..

we went to the ministry of sound next.. not that i go clubbing alot, but to me, it was the greatest clubbing experience ever.. i must say it impressed me much.. i've been to other clubs( zouk not withstanding), but none was as fascinating as this.. one whole big area, abt the size of a seletar aircraft hangar.. seperated into 2 different dance floors, each grooving to a different beat, RnB and Trance and surrounded by lots of pretty woman who clearly noes the definition abt dancing.. it was a real eye-opener for me..

so i would like to end this post with wat my platoon commander wrote about me during our course debrief interview.. 'Eugene possesses a keen intelligence with great presence of mind which he uses only when he gets into trouble.. he should learn to use it to perform, not to get out of trouble. there's still potential or room for improvement' So that was the main gist of it... I told you he hates me!!!

weeks jus keep getting better!! guess whose going into ARMOUR?!?! hahaha... i can't describe the feeling when i saw my name on the armour list.. i'm feeling high now, but i'm not too sure how i will feel when i actually training as one.. i hope it isn't as bad as infantry..

sorry, i dun really noe wat to write because theres really nothing much to be done in ocs.. the next batch of ocs ppl coming in next monday.. but wat happened most notably this week was our introduction to s.e.o.c.. for those who dun noe, s.e.o.c( safti endurance obstacle course) only applies to infantry officers.. which is the main reason why i didn't wan to get into infantry for my pro term. :) Spread over 3.5km of undulating terrain, add in obstacles worser than the standard S.O.C with the infamous 'stairway to heaven', i hav never seen a more physically demanding course.. haha..

now, wats so good abt armour? for one, theres no more DIGGING!!! whoo hoo!!! and wat do i hear?? NO MORE ROUTE MARCHES?? OMG!!! hahaha... i'm aiming to be a tankie la.. but thats not possible, i wouldn't mind being an armoured infantry.. haha... but damn it!! Signals is a five day week!! Arty is more slack!! all for the same pay!! But i shouldn't complain.. infantry is the worsest of all.. thank god man!! hahahaha..

P.S another greatest news ever!! 23km route march would be done at our own pace!! hahaha...

arses!! what was supposed to be a long weekend ended when the WSM asked me to go back all the way to SAFTI MI on saturday jus because of?? A not up-to-standard bunk... wtf!!! Oh well, anyway its going to be over soon.. it would be the last 2 weeks before i will never see him again...

so what did we do this week?? platoon live firing.. the utilisation of each and every weapon an infantry section is equipped with, aside from the MATADOR anti-tank weapon.. I also had the chance to fire the handheld rocket illum.. supposedly to provide light in darkness by using a flare with a parachute stuck on it.. pretty cool, dun you think???

otherwise, we didn't really do much.. OCS commissioning day parade on saturday was attended by the president himself.. that batch was lucky.. of the 3 times a year ocs commissions its officers, the president will only attend one.. the rest will be attended by erm, some MP i guess..

i guess i dun hav much to write anymore.. we will noe wats our vocation by this week.. god, pls let me enter into anything.....

wat a relief!!! FINALLY!! November has ended and with it, hell month.. now, in 3 more weeks one more white bar would be added on my epaulets and i would be entering my pro term.. With my IPPT and S.O.C cleared, i guess pretty much everything is going my way now..

Platoon field camp suck.. Not in the food sense( we had fresh rations btw), but because it was physically exhausting.. walking 1-2 kilometre with the SBO on b4 engaging the enemy on knolls and repeating it 4 to 5 times can kill us man.. and of cos, it doesn't help that the Wing commander was in charge of this whole thing.. I tell ya, our wing commander has the most monotonous voice ever man.. if u ever have difficulty trying to sleep, well, try hearing one of his 'speeches'.. But anyway, i'm glad its over.. it should be quite long b4 we will go for another field camp.. so i guess i should be thankful.. haha...

I watched Harry Potter at the Imax theatre yesterday.. it wasn't as good as the previous ones though.. probably got to do with the director.. haha.. but its a movie! so i'm not complaining..

3 more weeks, 1 23 km route march, 1 platoon live firing and its OVER for service term!! can't wait!

The greatest news happened to me this week... after 8 loooooonggg weeks, i finally passed my S.O.C in 9.29 mins... so i'm finally cleared for pro term.. man, this is like the greatest thing that happened to me since ocs started... to speak frankly, it had me worried man... not being able to pass the thing.. but anyway its over.. and i'm soooooo happy.. haha..

this week was quite slack.. we even had a movie watching day.. watching ' saving private ryan'... and writing a critique on it... ' how does battle stress affect soldiers'.. pretty cool eh? i guess, in a way, this week served as a rest period after the horrendous exercise spade and for the platoon field camp that is coming next week... so its good... platoon field camp would be the last field camp for this term already... the 5th camp that will end.. i seriously can't wait for the end of this type of stupid camps man...

we had our 'wing cohesion day' today.... went to sentosa to play our hearts out.. i think i enjoyed myself.. but to speak the truth.. i rather sleep in my bed.. who the hell wakes up at 6.00 jus to go sentosa????

'Exercise Spade' is the only 2 words that would be able to strike fear into the heart of every officer cadet in ocs.. frankly speaking, i didn't thought it would be so tough till the camp started.. imagine.. ploughing thru the land for 2 nights in a row.. no sleep, with the rain seeping into the socks of all of us.. BMT's digging is nothing compared to ocs one.. i was also quite unfortunate to be chosen as the company's runner.. which translates to digging an additional shellscrape for my CPC( cadet platoon commander).. you can imagine how tired i am man..

you noe.. i dun mind the physical shiong part of ocs.. wat i really hate is the fact that they dun allow us to sleep our 'required' 7 hours of sleep.. almost everyday we had to survive on barely 4 hours.. and if lucky, 5 or 6.. man, this sucks..

but otherwise.. its ending already... one more month.. one more month till the end of service term..

crap... i hav like only 15 minutes to round up like wat i did for the whole past week.. i shall make it short and sweeeeett...

first of all, our much much much beloved PC had us to stay back till 5pm on saturday to listen to one of his thousand words lecture.. all because we kinda screwed up our patrol missions.. and y we screwed up?? all because there was no one to guide us as to how to complete out AOP and OPS order as well as he wanted..

Patrol field camp was interesting la.. save for the fact that there was no sleep involved, i think i pretty much enjoyed it( pretty rare for me to say it huh?). spotting the enemy and getting into ambush positions so as to ambush them.. pulling off a textbook assualt on the enemy positions.. we even got hold off a few POW's in our bag as well.. very very fun... but 2 days enough for me.. haha..

we had our section quick attack live firing as well.. remember the charging up of the hill?? haha.. and guess who had the extreme privilege of throwing the smoke grenade so as to screen our flanking movement??? hahaha.. SMOKE!!!!!! SMOKE SCREEN FORMED!!!! MOVE!! MOVE!! MOVE!! and i would like to add that the hill is mighty steep.. haha

Demolitions are not exactly my kind of forte.. but i guess learning makeshift bombs could be real interesting.. and i think i'm finally qualified to wear the shirt that says ' I'm a bomb disposal specialist. If i run, try to keep up'.. Gee, i always wanted to wear that shirt.. :)

GPMG's live firing tomorrow.. guess another night's gonna get burn jus on cleaning the machine gun.. darn!! and THE most shiong camp ever... EXERCISE SPADE... where we dig and dig and dig and dig for 3 whole days continuously.. but it will end...... will it?? haha..

OCS timetable is very very smart...whereas BMT and SISPEC allows their trainees to go back training only on thursday... OCS timetable somehow goes like this.. Sunday book in, monday book out, tuesday book in, wednesday book out, thursday book in, Saturday book out.. i think it seems hard to understand on paper.. but believe me, as much as i love booking out on weekdays, it does take a toll on ur wallet for all those taxi fares that read 'Safti MI- Lorong K Telok Kurau'. in fact for the first time ever today.. i took the MRT.. aaallllll the way... haha... i gotta get used to this.. kembagan to sungei gedong camp is even longer.. haha..

so officially, the slackest period of service term in ocs is over.. this month, november, is termed as hell month by me.. i dun wan to sound so depressing but every week till the start of december has a field camp.. to start off.. monday to tuesday would be patrol field camp.. probably the most interesting camp.. i would think.. playing combat missions.. like playing pc games, only this time, you're in it.. only downside is.. its a 24 hours game, where u can't switch off the p.c when u feel tired.. u jus gotta plough through the night... thank god is only 2 days.. but i shall take this in my stride.. take this one week at a time..

the only one good phrase i've learn by hard in the army which i like to share with everyone is ' Time will pass'.. whenever you are in a sucky situation, jus think.. it won't last forever..

OCs section field camp- passed
The casualty evac( running around Safti MI with a 'casualty' weighing 70 kg that happened jus before we got our 2 white bar, seriously i thought that would never end)- passed
Those tekaning sessions( push up positions!! go down and hold it there!!!!!)- passed

all of this suckiest period of the army... it will never last forever!! i take faith in that.. so casper, i think you should too!!

Spewing death at a rate of 650-1200 rounds per minute, it's belgium's finest machine gun yet.. and that's wat we learned for the past week.. and as compared to the previous 4 weapons.. this is the toughest.. i couldn't believe they would hav set the theory paper so hard.. who in the right mind would go and find out that 'at 0 mils, 600m away, an armour-piercing bullet would penetrate how many metres of armour'?? haha.. only wierdos.. needless to say, i think quite a fair bit of us are going to fail the theory test.. hopefully, our technical handling test would pull our marks up.. haha..

nothing much happened otherwise la.. section live firing was okay.. no casualties.. its one thing firing at a live range, but its a totally new experience rushing foward to the next cover while ur section mates are covering you with their suppressing fire behind you.. to actually hear the bullets whizzing pass us as we ran.. interesting... haha..

i went to meet up with my SISPEC buddies.. and they quite agree with me.. its much more fun in BMT.. haha.. we saw the movie Domino and it really sucked man.. like big time.. a super duper lousy movie.. total waste of my time.. the scenes are all bits and pieces, with no connection or fluidity to each other.. 20 minutes into the movie and none of us actually knew wat the hell was going on.. lousy lousy lousy.. but if u wan to noe wats it abt.. its abt this grp of bounty hunters that catches criminals for the police for a fee then something cocks up and... aiya.. u wun wan to watch it la.. its really crap.. wasted my money.. haha.. but kiera knightly is hot though.. haha..

guess wat! i chose my vocation as an armoured infantry.. 2nd choice artillery.. it was either for interest or for slacking( artillery is real slack by the way.. field camp for arty officers does not require the wearing of camo paint and no more combat rations!! pure heaven!) .. but in the end, i realised that interest is more important la.. haha.. 'KNOLLS'... the one most dreaded word of an infantryman in field camps.. every single time we hear our instructors say 'Section quick attack! enemy at knoll point 30', you can hear every single person in my section cursing and swearing.. because attacking an enemy atop an advantageous position requires flanking.. which means u hav to go one big round up the knoll, jus so u can surprise the enemy and backstab him.. haha..

but that was not all we learn during section field camp.. we learn how to navigate the forest day and night, making great use of the parang they supplied us to clear the thick vegetation.. we learn how to do ambushes.. waiting for our instructors posing as our enemy to stumble upon our killing zone before using the trip flare to bring abt the brilliant flash of colour, blinding him b4 opening up all the available firepower we had.. haha.. that was perharps the highlight of the camp la.. otherwise it was quite crappy.. haha... imagine, combat rations again.. i'm like totally allergic to it already.. it sucks!

tomorrow's our section live firing.. meaning doing our fire movement with REAL bullets.. i can't describe the feeling i get whenever i start to think abt this man.. the threat of fraticide scares me, no matter how small it is.. haha.. jus hope all goes well.. haha..

we are also told to indicate our peference as to which support arms we would like to enter.. currently the 5 choices are infantry, armoured infantry, combat engineers, signals and artillery.. nobody knows wat to put for their first few choices but almost everybody in our platoon puts infantry as our last choice.. goes to show how shiong infantry is eh? haha...

This week, thankfully, was not so bad as the last.. aside from only one 7km endurance run( the other one got cancelled because of heavy rain) and yet another SOC training, i guess it was pretty much tests and live range all the way...

i never knew i could remember so much things in such a short time.. all the different weapons that we've to learn the previous week, we had to pour out during the test.. and's it not like in BMT, where you can cheat by looking at ur frens paper.. cos in OCS, you are not supposed to hav any INTEGRITY problems.. haha.. that's wat my officer's say.. haha.. no la.. more likely ppl dun cheat because they are afraid of getting another confinement.. u noe how easy it is to get one..

we had the chance to try out singapore's very own rifle.. the SAR 21 and i must say, this is a bloody good weapon.. armed with a scope( sniper!!) and a LAD( laser aiming device), i think its abit idiotproof la.. jus find some way to lessen the weight!! haha.. not only that.. we also managed to fire the SAW( section automatic weapon), which surprisngly had a very low recoil, i was expecting to find bruises in my shoulders which fortunately didn't happened.. haha.. hmm, i tried the MATADOR( Mobile Anti-Tank and Anti-DoOR) weapon.. basically singapore's own panzerfaust and the M203 grenade launcher( which makes a very soft 'chik' sound before the explosion is heard 200m away after 5 secs)..

4 weapons in 1 week!! but its quite an eye-opening experience though. its interesting to note wat type of firepower the SAF has.. Section Field camp's next week!! and u noe how much i hate this type of 'field' camps.. where u hav to sleep in rocky grounds contenting with the dreaded mosquitoes, where combat ration's once again comes into ur stomach.. and camo paint!! YUCKS! its an experience that u dun wan to go thru.. but the last time i checked in the OCS timetable, i still hav 4 more such camps to go.. so, whoopie..

otherwise, things are definitely picking up in ocs.. it does not suck as much already.. and i hope it stays this way for the rest of my service term..

if bmt's tough shit, then OCS is diarrhea man.. stepping onto the grounds of OCS was quite a culture shock for me, even though i already entered the army for like 3+ months.. there's so many things to write abt the 3 weeks i've been confined that i really dunno where to start.. let me try...

The 3 weeks confinement was the first time that i really felt homesick.. kinda surprising because i thought i'm not the homesick type kind of guy.. but things change you when u go in ocs...

training's tough.. no doubt abt it..i'm not going to say i'm Mr. Conan and tell you guys that ocs life for the past 3 weeks is a piece of cake.. 6 km runs every other day for the past week( progressing to 7km next week and 8km the following).. S.O.C training( which means doing SOC course 5 times in a single session) on the days when u dun run.. and they called it progressive training?? i must admit, its trainings such as these that makes me think, why am i here training when i could hav jus easily put 'no, i do not want to be a commander' in the E.I survey.. which will mean i would be posted into a pretty slack vocation like RSAF technicians and what-hav-you's...

and who was the idiot that told me that army no need to study ah?? haha.. maybe it was my thinking that u dun need to study in the army.. haha.. but noooo.... in ocs, there's much to learn.. Military law, leadership training, how to speak well in public, safety in training, the different characteristics of the 4 different main weapons the SAF uses, their max effective range, the calibre their bullets use, the different IA drills, how they are to be stripped and assembled, what are the best used for.. the list goes on and on and on till the point ur brain is ready to burst.. its suddenly like poly, but the only difference is you are NOT allowed to sleep.. woe befalls anyone who sleeps during class.. haha..

our PC sucks la... its as if he's PMSing 24/7.. thank god the other section commanders are super nice.. only the PC seems to pick on every small mistake i make.. F*&K HIM!! at least i got the backing of the rest of the instructors.. so life's bearable in OCS.. Frenswise, thank god i got a super nice section who all i can click with.. maybe not all, but most.. haha..

i'm the CPS( cadet platoon seargeant in my platoon), same rank as my PS in bmt but its in white.. haha.. and guess wat happened when during the commander's parade rehearsal in ocs, our CPC had to fall out due to injury.. i had to take over him and with that responsibility, i got to hold the officer's sword, which on normal circumstances, u only get once u commissioned.. and i must tell u all.. the sword is a fine art of worksmanship.. along the sword is the 'Majula Singapura' logo, with ur name name nicely engraved on the sword.. i can't wait for mine.. 2LT EUGENE CHENG YEW HUME... okay la!! i'm dreaming la.. i still hav 9 more months to go.. haha..

aiya.. i feel damn sian la.. because i kena confinement... first time in my army life.. and all because i gave the wrong instructions as a CPS... its super easy to 'stay back' in camp.. sideburns not cut??? confinement.. beret not put properly??? confinement.. never march properly?? confinement... CRAP... i think i should blog next week la.. when i'm in a much better mood.. sorry peeps... :)
